The Day Hartington Peak Rail Matlock Please Read Me |
Today we said goodbye to Hartington. I went to Matlock for two full days, in order to see Peak Rail on Tuesday and Chatsworth House on the following day. In Matlock, I stayed at "Stone Lodge", a guest house south of the centre of Matlock. After booking in there, I spent an interesting day on Peak Rail, making two return journeys and browsing around the activities at the present northern terminus of Rowsley (pronounced as in "rowing a boat").
After breakfast, it was time to leave Hartington. It had been a good few days, walking, cycling and sightseeing. Some took cars back south. Some took a bus to Stockport and from thence the train to Euston. I arranged for a cab to Matlock, in fact to "Stone Lodge", where I booked in before visiting Peak Rail.
I spent a very interesting and instructive day on Peak Rail. Both the journey itself and seeing the restoration activities at Rowsley South added to my fund of "ferroequinological" knowledge. A day well spent!
This evening it seemed opportune to have an evening meal at Sainsbury's which is adjacent to the Peak Rail Station in Matlock. Then it was a shortish walk back to Stone Lodge. It was the end of a day of new experiences. I settled in to my accommodation at Stone Lodge.
